Meeting 3 2023 (2 May)

Meeting 3 of 2023 was held on Tuesday 2 May, at 1pm AEST.

We watched Tamar Evangelestia-Dougherty, Digital Ties That Bind: Effectively Engaging With Communities For Equitable Digital Preservation Ecosystems, a keynote talk from iPRES 2022, available on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDEWqey559M.

Our discussions reflected on:

  • The social construction of equity
  • The language we use is not well understood by communities
  • The need for critical and well thought out collaborations
  • Archivists as the face of their institution whether they want to be or not
  • The ethical harvesting of websites
  • Staff safety as part of community work
  • The maintenance of community archives is never funded and this is made worse / increased in the digital space.

Please note that the talk itself goes for 30 minutes however the Q&A following is also well worth watching.
