This year
new people have joined our reading group; we have a core (‘hardcore’) group who
attended every meeting, many of whom have been there since we started the
reading group in 2018, and we get different people joining in every other
session, which we love.
We caught up 5 times in 2022, and discussed the following
articles:
[Feb] Itza
A. Carbajal and Michelle Caswell, "Critical Digital Archives: A Review
from Archival Studies", American Historical Review, September
2021, https://doi.org/10.1093/ahr/rhab359
[April]
Lindsay Kistler Mattock, “Makerspaces as Archives/Archives as Makerspaces:
Making and the Materiality of Archival Practice,” in Defining a
Discipline: Archival Research and Practice in the 21st Century, edited by
Jeannette Bastian and Elizabeth Yakel (Chicago: Society of American Archivists,
2020).
[July] Mike
Jones, "The temple of history: historians and the sacralisation of
archival work", History Australia, vol 18 issue 4, https://doi.org/10.1080/14490854.2021.1988650
We had author Mike Jones join us to discuss his article which
was a real treat: thanks Mike, we really appreciated your company.
[October]
Cristela Garcia-Spitz and Noah Geraci, "Negotiating Online Access:
Perspectives on Ethical Issues in Digital Collections", Journal of
Critical Library and Information Studies, vol 3 no 2, 2022, https://journals.litwinbooks.com/index.php/jclis/article/view/130
[December] There was no reading for this meeting, instead we
discussed various conferences, talks or seminars we attended this year.
Next year, we will be varying the meeting days of the group, to hopefully provide more flexibility for people to attend. We have some exciting plans for guest authors, and we also look forward to hearing your suggestions for articles you’d like to read and discuss or guest authors/attendees.
As a preview and for your calendars, here are the dates the reading group will be happening next year. We will still send out individual posts for each meeting, with the zoom link rsvp and reading details. In 2023 we will be meeting at 1pm AEDT/AEST (unless otherwise noted) on the following dates:
- Wednesday 1 February - with guest author Jennifer Douglas, to be chaired by Nicola
- Thursday 16 March, to be chaired by Kirsten
- Tuesday 2 May, to be chaired by Rachel
- Wednesday 14 June
- Tuesday 1 August
- Wednesday 13 September, to be a post-ASA conference (and other conferences) reflection
- Thursday 26 October
- Tuesday 5 December
Until we meet again, we wish you all a happy holiday and see
you in 2023!
